Always report adverse reactions:

FDA:

Many victims of Fluoroquinolone Toxcity (FQT) are given medications after being floxed. many of which do further harm to a floxed patient . We have compiled a list of common medications a FQT victim may be prescribed and their respective warnings.

This list is provided by the Quinolone Vigilance Foundation as a resource and should neither be construed as medical advice nor as an endorsement for or against the use of medications. Talk to your doctor about your concerns regarding side effects. In no way are we advising patients whether or not to take these, or any, medications. Please note that this list is not complete and many other medications may be prescribed. We encourage everyone to research any medication they are prescribed, and to do the same if you decide to use alternative treatments and/or remedies.

If you believe that other medications should be added to this list or if you would like us to add the adverse event reporting system for your geographic area, please alert us to it at contact@saferpills.org.

Suicide Hotlines

This is easily the most emotional post I've made since I can remember. I ran it through my head a million times knowing that if I started writing about it, it's going to bring what I've been keeping locked up in my mind to the forefront, and I wasn't so sure I wanted that. I'm a pretty private person. I keep a lot of things to myself and I stuff it way down. It's a habit I know isn't healthy. I guess it's just part of who I am.

But my conscience couldn't let it go. I think all of this needs to be said. After all, if I don't speak out, how is it really helping anyone? If this saves even one life, then all the pain is worth it.

I have been with Quinolone Vigilance Foundation for 3 years. In that time, I've spoken to hundreds of victims, many of whom were suicidal. Most just needed to hear a voice on the other end to validate what they're feeling and going through. If there was an imminent threat, I have sent the authorities to peoples' homes if I knew their location, or if I could easily find that out. I referred all of them to a suicide hotline.

We're always happy to try to help when we can, but we are also not professionals and we have to refer people to those who are.

In the last several months, I have noticed an increase in these types of calls. After the calls, I felt comfortable knowing I did all I could.

There is one in particular that continues to haunt me. This person committed suicide while I was talking to them.

The rational part of me knows I did everything I could but it's still on a constant loop in my head.

It is a well established fact that fluoroquinolone antibiotics cause psychiatric effects such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. However, current warnings about that on the labels are hidden under confusing language.

Dr. Charles Bennett from the University of South Carolina submitted a Citizen's Petition to the FDA in September 2014 to add stronger warnings regarding psychiatric adverse reactions. This request asks for a Black Box Warning for the following psychiatric adverse events: toxic psychoses, hallucinations, paranoia, suicidal thoughts or acts, loss of consciousness, delirium, depressed level of consciousness, amnesia, coma, and memory impairment. Additionally, the wording should also include “may start during treatment or may be delayed and start days, weeks, or months after the last dose.“

This warning comes too late for the person who took their life, but it could save others if patients were aware of the very real risks.

Knowing that patients all over the world are suffering and come to us, other fluoroquinolone organizations, or Facebook groups, we decided to compile a list of hotlines for all over the world in the hopes that we can provide vital resources to those who are suicidal. As much as we want to help, we are not professionals and we have to point people to those who are.

Suicide threats have risen to such a level that Facebook introduced a way to make it easier to take action: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/25/facebook-suicide-prevention_n_6754106.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063

Not only do fluoroquinolones cause these psychiatric issues, they also cause enormous pain. Many people become disabled and lose their income, unable to provide for their families. Simply put, fluoroquinolone antibiotics -Avelox (moxifloxacin), Cipro (ciprofloxacin), Levaquin (levofloxacin)- destroys lives.

This list is by no means complete. However, we did our best to include as many hotlines as we were able to find. If you know of hotlines that are not seen here, please alert us to it at contact@saferpills.org

The list is broken down by country, and where available, we broke it down even further by county and state.

Last year, QVF wrote a piece about depression and suicide. You can find that here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/quinolone-vigilance-foundation/depression-and-suicide-tips-and-warning-signs/818814418137434

To our knowledge, the hotlines provided below are working numbers but we make no guarantees in the event that they're not. This document is not to be construed as medical advice. We are simply providing resources.

Please feel free to share this list. You never know whose life you will save.
